Day 8~ God our King

Our Almighty God is many things; a Creator, a Warrior, our Shepherd, our Father, our Leader, our Defender, our Friend, but in addition to all these things he is a King.

Malachi 1:14 says;
"For I am a great king, and people of all nations fear me."

Jeremiah 46:18 says;
"I, the Lord Almighty, am king. I am the living God."

God is our King.

What is a king?
Many of us may live in countries without a monarch and the truth is, modern ideas of what a King is can perhaps be likened to that of a celebrity, but the role of a monarch is much more than being wealthy and powerful.

There is a Shakespearean quote that says, "Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown" and while this quote doesn't apply to God, it gives us a pretty good idea of the responsibilities a king might have.

As our King, God has many roles to play, he is our judge; the one who settles our disputes, our protector; the one who defends us from attacks. He is our provider; the one who gives us what we need and he also ensures that our lives run smoothly, among many other things.

It was always God's intention to be our Sovereign.

In the Bible, we see in the book of Samuel where the people of Israel asked Samuel to appoint them a king. Samuel was a prophet and a judge, and at that time he was practically Israel's ruler. He was unhappy with their desire so he prayed to God and God said this;

"You are not the one they have rejected; I am the one they have rejected as their king."   1 Samuel 8:7

God was the one that led them out of Egypt and during that time when they did not have a king figure, God, in all actuality, was their sovereign, but the people no longer wanted this which is why, on God's command, Saul was eventually anointed as the first king of Israel.

God was still in control of the land of Israel of course, but now their king made decisions for them, so now, instead of consulting the prophets, the people would consult their king. Their king, of course, was suppose to have a good relationship with God, like king David.

Now, even today, in our own lives, God is our king. We must serve him and praise and worship him because he is the one who saves and defends us. He is the one who forgives us and blesses us.

Also, our God's role as a king is important too because it's linked to our own identity; if God, the king, is our father, that makes us royalty!

For this reason, we must carry about ourselves with dignity, humility and sensibility; because we are the role models for the rest of the world.

So today, I want to encourage you to keep a good relationship with your king and know in your own heart that you are royalty. As royalty, you must live a life that will strengthen and encourage those around you because you may be the only role model they have.

Lastly today, in light of International Women's day, I'd like to say thank you to all those amazing, wonderful, beautiful women out there. Keep being strong, working hard and being faithful to God. You are surely a blessing in the lives of all those around you so keep shining your light and being everything God has created you to be!
