Day 15~ God who does not Reject Us!

Lamentations 3:31-33,

"The Lord is merciful and will not reject us forever. He may bring us sorrow but his love for us is sure and strong. He takes no pleasure in causing us grief or pain."

The book of Lamentations, as the name would suggest, is a book full of sorrow and grief. It's author, who is presumably the prophet Jeremiah, speaks of Jeruselem after it had been trampled by its enemies.

However, this passage, in contrast to the rest of the book, says something very interesting. In spite of the circumstances they were facing; ridicule, starvation and death, it says, "The Lord is merciful and will not reject us forever."

Those were some very courageous words, coming from someone who with their very own eyes witnessed the distruction of Jeruselem, from someone who saw Jeruselem fall from God's grace

If the author of this book is truely the prophet Jerimiah, then we can even go as far as saying that he himself did not deserve to be punished as the rest. He didn't deserve to be in the city and ridiculed as the rest who had stopped following God's command. He didn't sin as the people, worshipping idols or giving false prophecies neither did he break the Sabbath law. He did none of the evil things of the people of that day. Yet for all, he witnessed a scene so devastating that he grieved over it.

But still, he says, "He may bring us sorrow but his love for us is sure and strong."
The faith of the writer was so great, that he believed that in spite of everything that he saw before him, that God was good and that he still loved them. He knew in his heart that God took no pleasure in causing them pain or grief.

Of course, he was right!
God had not rejected them. They returned triumphant and eventually Jesus, God's only son, was born in Bethlehem in Jerusalem.

Our God is a merciful God who does not reject us.
He loves us and takes care of us, more than we could come to deserve.
Yes, he may bring us sorrow, he does this to correct us and stir up our faith. God is a good God and although we may not always understand why he puts us through certain situations, the fact that he is good does not change.

God does not reject his people. Today I want to remind you that God will not reject us and he does not take pleasure in causing us grief and pain. There is always a purpose for our troubles.

But be courageous, God has not rejected you! He never has and he never will.
