Day 7~ Our Merciful God

Today, let us reflect on God as our merciful father.

Isaiah 43:25 says this;

"And yet, I am the God who forgives your sins, and I do this because of who I am. I will not hold your sins against you."

Our God is a merciful God. He forgives us whenever we sin.

This means that no matter what we may do, God will forgive us, not because of anything we've done to deserve his forgiveness, but because he is a forgiving and merciful God. Just repent and do not doubt his mercy.

No matter what you've done, even if you feel embarrassed about it or regret it, you must remember that God is a merciful God, he forgives our sins because he knows what is in our heart.

We as children of the Most High God, must also be just as merciful and forgiving.

In the gospel of Luke, chapter 6 verses 27-29, Jesus teaches us how to be merciful, it says;

"But I tell you who hear me; love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you."

Why did Jesus tell us this? He says this because our God is merciful to us, and this is a gift he gives us freely. How much more the gift of mercy would be worth if we gave it to another.

King David was once in such a situation.

2 Samuel 16:5-14 speaks of a incident where King David was fleeing from Jerusalem after his son, Absalom, had rebeled against him. At one point, a relative of King Saul called Shimei was cursing him, his officials wanted to kill the man but King David said;

"...The Lord told him to curse; so let him do it. Perhaps the Lord will see my misery and give me some blessings to take the place of his curse."

King David knew how to be merciful, knowing that if he was merciful to the one that cursed him, God would be just as merciful to him.

If you read on further, at chapter 19 verses 18-20, the very man that cursed him returned and asked for his forgiveness.

This is why we must be merciful to others; because God will bless us for it and perhaps the people that hurt us will realize they were doing something wrong.

God created everyone on this Earth, even our enemies, even the people that offend us or those that may hurt us, he is also in control of their lives, this is why it's best to place people in God's hands, he knows their story and why they behaved in the way that they did.
Don't  worry, he knows how you feel too and will vindicate you if they were in the wrong.

Also being merciful and forgiving helps us to heal.
It takes a lot out of our spirit when we hold grudges against other people or when we hate them. It hurts us by taking away the peace from our lives.
Isn't it easier to place them in the hands of God, forgive them and forget about them?

It may not be easy to forgive them, but as long as you stop channeling your thoughts in the direction of that person or situation and start focusing on other things, you will let it go.

It's always good to remember the quote that says,
"For every minute you spend angry you lose 60 seconds of happiness."

So today, I want you to remember that God is a merciful God, he will forgive you once you repent, so just believe in him and move on. Also, be merciful and forgive others, this will glorify God and you will live a more peaceful and happy life.
